Being Chickens
Here in South Australia we put the clocks forward an hour last weekend. The positive effect to this is more daylight in the evenings so when I get home from work I can spend some time in the garden and with the chickens. In the dead of winter there were days when the girls were already in bed by the time I got home from work at 5.30pm, so it is fantastic to be able to come home and let out some very excited chickens for a couple of hours in the evening.

I'm really torn about letting our chickens out...one or two disappear, they try to go off and sit on eggs in hiding places...frustrating!
My girls were getting out of their run and wandering around the backyard. This is OK as long as I don't have a newly planted garden! I clipped their flight feathers on both wings, and one still gets out daily! I know what you mean about daylight savings time. We will be moving our clocks back one hour in a few weeks and it will often be dark before I get home!
Blessings,
Lorilee
Lorilee ours keep getting in the vege patch, but there is only a small jump with our current temporary fence. I don't know how big your fence is, but it could be that your hens are too balanced. When cliping wings you should only clip one side otherwise they will still be able to fly a little. Try letting one side grow out and see how they go then.
